And thank GOD NOA made this choice. Because the REAL SMB2 is an ok game, but there’s no WAY it would’ve sold 8 million copies in the U.S. like this did. This game gave the West “Mario Mania” so hard, they repacked it as “Super Mario USA” and sold a modest few hundred thousand extra copies in Japan.

It’s not even a Mario game. Japan would never have made this as a mainline game. It’s a reskin of Miyamoto’s obscure “Doki Doki Panic”, which has a quietly racist “Arabian Nights” undertones and other mildly “problematic” elements. It’s a testament to the USA in the late 80s we got this “Mario Game”
