We consulted election officials in Texas, Colorado, Georgia, and LA to test messages they have used to build trust in elections. We find in every case the messages are effective, regardless of the party of the recipient.

We find large treatment effects across party lines; these simple videos increased trust in the state they featured's elections by 10-12 percentage points on average (with slight spill over effects on general trust in elections).

In a large national survey, we document very large gaps in trust between partisans when asked about how much they trust elections in Blue vs Red states. Partisans trust elections run by co-partisan governments a lot more than those run by out-partisans.

I'm happy to be able to share a new working paper with Jennifer Gaudette, Seth Hill, Thad Kousser, Mindy Romero, and Laura Uribe showing that federalism and polarization interact to produce significant nationalized distrust in elections.
