Your posts just reminded me about my own reaction to letting my kid see (implied) sex vs letting them see violence.

Parenting is an interesting journey and I’ve always said it’s been one of the most healing things I’ve done for myself (not on purpose, I didn’t have a kid to fix myself- this is just a happy surprise because my kid is so much like me). I get to treat them how I wish I’d been treated.

Fair enough! It’s a lot to figure out and unpack. Especially when you don’t have any role models to help. A lot of parenting in general for me is like that. I try not to do anything without examining *why* I’m doing it and making sure it’s not just because that’s how my parents did it

And I’ve been thinking about it a lot. Why was my first instinct that sex was uncomfortable but the violence was fine?? I guess it’s a product of growing up with that attitude in our media. It rubbed off on me more than I thought it did. It’s hard to challenge that programming!

Anyway- the only part I felt uncomfortable with them watching was the part where Pentious watches the couple have sex- but then I was completely fine with the murder like 15 seconds later.

They are 11- not old enough by any stretch to watch the entire show unfiltered, but I let them watch the second episode of HH season 2 because they are obsessed with Alex Brightman and that episode is basically fine (I’m not bothered by letting my kid hear swear words)

Do you know what- the hardest thing is that even though I do fully agree with the sentiment I have a really hard time practicing what I preach with my own kid
