Someone in Divis Tower flies the Russian flag and a communist flag. I have often wanted to ask them why. Do they seriously think the corrupt, elitist, oligarchical, pseudo-capitalist, Mafia government of Russia is communist? And if so, how? Beggars belief.

I've been wondering about this for years. I'm still not sure of where I land. Politically, China seems communist in structure. Economically, it's a much greyer picture. Capitalism is allowed but when it runs up against the CCP the economic gains can be stripped away in an instant.

We'll be retiring soon. It's my dream to buy some land and plant it full of indigenous trees and volunteer with groups to plant trees wherever they are needed locally. It's a small step but I think it's an important one. Government needs to lead in this but I have no great hope, so I'll get digging!

It is shameful. Whenever travelling the roads and byways with my wife I always rue the lack of tree coverage. I've travelled around Europe and Canada and Ireland has to hang its head in shame. Other countries have glorious forests, meadows and woodlands. We have agricultural fields.
