I run a rural recycling & haz waste collection facility in the Midwest and write about waste management and my connection to nature. 6th generation Hoosier. MA English, MPA Government. Posts 100% my own.
These are not normal times. We should expect more of this childishness.
Donald Trump just removed Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Juneteenth from the list of free entry days at national parks.

They are being replaced with Trump’s birthday.

Phil Klay: I suspect the question the administration cares about is not “is this legal,” “is this a war crime,” “is this murder” or even “is this good for America,” but rather, “isn’t this violence delightful?” www.nytimes.com/2025/12/05/o...

If you take the time to read the whole Gates memo (which I did), the bulk of the content was mostly solid and encouraging. Really!

It was the FRAME that was off--very off, from the first line.

And when your framing is off, then how you make decisions and set priorities is off. THAT'S the problem.

I am always amused when women call my facility to ask questions, but they’re really asking for their husbands, who are in the same room with them yelling the questions for them to relay to me on the phone. Men, pick up the damn phone and ask the question yourself. What is the matter with you? 😂

Jane Goodall was my first childhood hero, as I loved animals as a kid and was inspired by her story. I still remember the National Geographic specials about her. RIP.

It’s the first reading of our county recycling district’s annual budget. It’s my chance as director to remind our officials what we do. Local government = democracy, people. #government #budgets #democracy

I’m in recycling, and this terrible but hardly unexpected news. The US is complicit with petrochemical companies who only want to make a profit. We can’t recycle ourselves out of this.💀
