Ellie is somewhat insecure about her scales. Since the Final Days, she suffered serious injury and molted new scales. She's been feeling a bit more confident while in Tural, as long as its not pointed out.

An au ra could molt only a few scales or a full body's worth, it's different for every au ra. This is a very rare occurrence, and some records have been found about the subject. Elayna just so happened to be one of those occurrences after fighting body and soul for the star.

However, molting new scales at such an alarming rate is painful. So, the body will "shut down" and become comatose for a while so it may molt the scales. This process will take 2-7 days depending on how many scales the body will molt.

OKIE, So I have this HeadCanon lore concept about the Au ra in Final Fantasy XIV that I would like to share. Under very dire circumstances, like a near death experience or over exertion, the body will molt new scales as a means to defend itself.
