excellent stuff from amanda
I wrote about the Labubu Dubai chocolate Love Island matcha latte of it all. There really has been a material change in how trends are produced and which ones are capable of catching on with huge audiences. Gift link: www.bloomberg.com/news/article...
The Social Media Trend Machine Is Spitting Out Weirder and Weirder Results

An absolutely devastating read
This is one of the most profound essays I’ve read in years. You don’t need me to tell you that Hanif Abdurraqib is one of the finest writers of our time, but this essay in particular is a hard-won offering. Please read it and share with people you love.
In Defense of Despair
The feeling is most commonly framed as an end point, a level of despondency that cannot be overcome. But it doesn’t have to be so.

Thoroughly bewildered by this new lifestyle show from Meghan. We’re supposed to watch bc of who she is (& her celebrity friends) but we don’t see any depth of who she is. Or this is who she is and there is no depth? But we’re all watching so jokes on us?

Measles high infection rate is the reason we have not yet been able to eradicate it. That rate means you need a very high vaccination rate to prevent outbreaks. It is possible, but not with current levels of institutional distrust.
The average person with the flu gives it to around 1.4 people. The average person with measles gives it to between 12 and 18 people.

Measles cases continue to surge globally, putting millions of children at risk.

More than 10 million people globally were infected with measles in 2023, a 20% increase from the previous year.

The hardest part about public health is that when we succeed, there's no crisis, no epidemic. People carry on with daily life, unaware of a near-miss. We may never know how bad it could have been - because our public health workforce is always taking action to avoid, prevent, and control threats.

With your support, we've built a stronger, more diverse coalition of #AltGov accounts, countered their fictions with facts, performed our 1st coordinated drop of bluesky, & found 10s of 1000s of fellow citizens who are standing firm against this coup.

it seems obvious to me that first order of business for our elected officials who oppose what’s currently happening in the federal government should be to pick a fucking leader.

As the EOs and orders keep coming, I keep thinking of the exhibit in the Berlin Jewish Museum that displays the 962 anti-Jewish laws and policies in order as they came down. These kinds of drumbeats are designed not just to oppress but to normalize oppression. www.jmberlin.de/en/jmb-journ...
