Art historian talking (mostly) about art! (You may twitter-know me as Maarten_vtK)
So this happened. Soon to be found in (Dutch language) bookshops and museums near you! My book is about frames in museums in public collections in the Netherlands and Flanders! After you've read it, I'm sure no museum visit will ever be the same!

This building, despite its age, never gets old! Particularly flying the flag on a sunny afternoon this has to be one of the most beautiful Dutch town halls! (The earliest parts dating back to the first quarter of the 15th century!)

Fragments of a 16th century frieze, decorated with grotesque motives and references to classical antiquity? Batestein really was a Renaissance court! And you can see them at @museumvianen.bsky.social !

Roaring furnaces, soot, and smoke were Herman Heijenbrock's happy place. In 1,5 week's time, Stedelijk Museum Vianen is home to an exhibition on him!

Come and see 'Painting in the glow of the furnace: Herman Heijenbrock (1871-1948)'

I don't know if I ever saw an otter as the subject of a painting! Seen at Steigrad at PAN 2024.

Any thoughts on attributions for this charming small picture? It comes from a Dutch collection, and is painted on copper. The copper is a cut up print plate, the print dated 1618.

Giovanni Bellini has something incredibly timeless about him, just look at these details from his Annuntiation. I'm obsessed with Mary's book!

I really hope we can make this place sing with great art and beauty!
Did you know Jan Gossart must have seen the Belvedere torso at the workshop of Andrea Bregno in 1509? Gossart used the same pose in his Christ on the Cold Stone some 20 years later!

The soon te be arriving Sinterklaas (saint Nicholas) approaching Vianen seems like an excellent first post on this place! The saint isn't the first dignitary to do so: Hendrik Vroom painted the 1619 arrival of two noble newly-weds in the the yaught borrowed from her great cousin, prince Maurits!
