Would add that the Lords being ridiculous with trade unions is nothing new, just look at Rookes v Barnard in 1964 (used a case from the 1700s involving shipping vessels), which was an attempt to undermine the 1906 immunities. The standards are different when it’s organised labour.

Trade unionists just desperate to get day one sick pay, y’know?

Also love this from Mainstream, once again showing their complete lack of trade union support. The unions who could claim to be ‘high and dry’ were the smol ones who weren’t invited to the grown ups‘ table by their peers

HUGE NEWS:

If anyone is at a loose end on the 19th March they can come to my GMB branch’s social and fundraiser for Medical Aid for Palestine and get the joy of seeing me trying to chair a panel discussion about Reform. Worth it IMHO.

For context, Dave Prentis got 49% of the vote in 2015 on pretty similar turnout

Like I appreciate this is probably just poor editing, but it’s ridiculous to have blatant factual inaccuracies. (parking subjective left/right labelling issues). 2020 4 candidates ran overall (not 5) and 1 got 47% of the vote, other 3 got 53% of vote (figures rounded down and up respectively)

Also, second photo isn’t exactly big margins

Not content with accidentally euthanising the DB pension in its last government, Labour now want to discourage people from significantly contributing to their pension at all

it pre-dates that. Draws a distinction between in opposition and in power. This is 2016 rulebook

I think with the first three of these there are ‘reasonable’ arguments against- none of which I would agree with. But the 4th one is ridiculous and very much just don’t like the idea of trade unions being able to use their money in politics

This is from the 2016 contest (turnout almost 77%, electorate about 659,000) taken at face value it would mean not many affiliate members at all. I suppose it’s not impossible that more people started paying into the labour part of the political fund

I’m the real victim here, lads, I got memed into being racist- it’s just
not something I have agency over.

I slightly disagree with this typically good piece from Sarah O’Connor; I think the main thing that keeps sectoral bargaining in social care in place is Labour getting re-elected. I think the points below are more important for chances of sectoral bargaining being implemented in other areas

Yh, I’ve got time for this. Unlike some sponsors, tiktok not creating ‘good union jobs’

1) I quite like this approach
2) lol
3) a huge lol at any dweeb who thought Unite was going to seriously exert itself in this, particularly for a candidate critical of Starmer
