Aging like fine 5€ wine, father of a little nerd

🇧🇪🇵🇱🇯🇵
The upsides of having the attention span and memory of an oyster. This little guy has been living in my winter jacket since our trip to Ghibli Park last year.
Now rightfully ruling over my desk.

Finally watched Mickey 17 this w-e and we’re living in times where sci-fi colonial satire feels like too close to home 😬

The cure for the gloom and doom was Herdling. What a treat! Thank you @okomotive.ch peeps for that little 💎
We need more short games like that. Highly recommended

What perfect albums came out when you were 16?

As always late on that train but holy shit, go play Indika.
A game that criticises the church and structures of powers in 19th century Russia made by (Russian) devs that fled their homeland after Ukraine's invasion. The game was finished in exile and it's a masterpiece.

Just finished the Invincible (the game) and it’s a real delight.
Highly recommended for any walking sim and sci-fi aficionados.
The art really top notch and they choose their battles well for such a smallish team. Also it’s short and sweet you probably can do it in 8ish hours (12 for me).

Yes! Somen time!

And last but not least, Yubaba from Spirited Away in her office. One of my favourite movies, period. The quality of the capture doesn't do justice to the diorama.

Laputa, castle in the sky. The sculpture is about 3m high.

The scene from Pompoko where the Tanukis setup their plan. As always, life sized diorama.

Then a life sized (read human scaled ^^ ) diorama of Arietty's room.
We can't see it here but It's brilliant how they sculpted massive water drop/pearls that maintains the illusion of viscosity and surface tension of liquids at micro scale (like in the movie).

Some more Gaussian Splats from my visit of Ghibli Park in Nagoya 🧵
First a Nago sculpture in the Mononoke village.
As most things in the park, it's 1 to 1 size, so it's huge!
I can't emphasis enough on the amount of craft that goes in those.

And a last one for the floats.
It's a closer look on the inside wire & wood structure of the floats and the LED lighting.
I'm always blown away by the quality of the light scattering. In VR it's mindboggling.

One more, didn't manage to get as good quality as on the other scans but I love the sculpture.

Some more Gaussian Splats from the trip to Japan.
Here's one of the floats on display in the Nebuta Museum in Aomori. Those are huge structures made of paper layered on wire structures and painted by hand.

interactive view so move the view around

I have a bunch of gaussian splats I have to go through from the trip to Japan. Here's one from Ghibli Park that ended up not too bad. The real thing was just huge 🤯

Here's a link to the interactive view of the GS

Had the strangest experience today, still processing.

I went to the Avatar cafe In Tokyo (nothing to do with the movie). It’s
a place where waiters are robots remotely controlled by people who are incapacitated and bedridden. 🧵1/5

Today I went to see Ryuichi Sakamoto retrospective at the #MoT and it was such an emotional experience.
You can clearly feel how much he wanted to live when facing his own end but not for selfish reasons. He just could see how much beauty there is in this world and don’t wanted to part with that.

In EU it’s still half baked and apparently in Mexico it’s still as it should be. Welcome to the multiverse!

Did you find some good candidates for Notion replacement? I’m finding myself more and more reliant on it for work and daily life to a point where I’m anxious for when they turn evil 👿.
Got those so far (and yes, it’s a lost in notion 🤗) but not convinced yet.

It’s so interesting to discover later that your heroes were behind the scene some of your core childhood memories.
Here’s also the Panzer Dragoon cover he made too (again had no idea at the time).
