This is where better transit would make such a difference.

Please let me know what you find. I have disabilities and cannot drive. I am not giving my money to any business that does not care about my safety.

I have gone out of my way to not buy from Marty's since they came out against bike lanes. They're the closest shop to me but they get zero of my dollars.

It's shocking to me that society gets angry if you try and do things to lower that number. they worry that this will cause more traffic congestion, as though roads require blood sacrifices for traffic to flow smoothly
Yes yes there's lots of people dying but I don't like being stuck in traffic.

I am just so tired of death and disability having been a socially accepted price of travel. I'm glad there's finally starting to be some pushback.

I know someone who was severely injured at the pictured intersection a few years ago. I was hit near there by someone turning off a side street onto Quadra. Last year I helped direct traffic when someone on a mobility scooter was hit by a driver pulling out of a driveway on Hillside.

well we all know that Victoria is a tourist town and tourists only want to see police
lots of police
no flowers or music or events
just cops driving fancy new cars
and tourists want to drive everywhere and not take transit
because it's super fun to pay a ton to bring your car on the ferry

Thought Carney made it so they could ram it through with or without the approval of First Nations?

I'm coming at this from the perspective of someone who has mobility issues and can't drive. The only place to get treatment for many diseases is in Victoria or Vancouver so if you have MS and live in, say, Tofino, getting to see a neurologist in Victoria is going to be difficult due to no transit.

oh this is so nice to see! As someone who has mobility issues, an e-bike has been such a game changer for me. Making them accessible for more people is wonderful.

We really need to stop being terrified of other people and take transit.

I live here and no, BC transit does not run good bus service. My daughter would frequently wait 1 hour or more for her bus home, and it was a major route.
Further, there is zero transit between Victoria and most other cities on the island.

Same. This is how things get better.

thanks. She left a very large void that we're all still trying to navigate. It was so absolutely senseless - someone runs a light and now we've lost an entire person? How is that a thing that can happen?
I'm so very glad you're ok. I hate that she died but I very much want her death to be the last.

That ghost bike represents a woman I worked with who was an incredible human being that spent her life making other people's lives better.
It's so messed up that the tragedy of her death meant so little that we're all just back to the same behavior that killed her not even a year later

"stimulants"? are we being serious right now?
has anyone ever told Hammond or the upset people that are being referred to here about coffee shops?
November 28, 2025 at 6:36 PM
I don't think they really were. I think it's a lot of "what is the bare minimum needed here"
Like I've been hearing people in the Esquimalt community talking about how they fill the sinkholes that randomly appear in the pathway on Devonshire where there's no sidewalk because no one official cares.

Oh yes I did go to one of those months ago on my lunch break. It was just after Dr Argouarch was killed while cycling, and I was hoping that something could be done to ensure senseless cyclist deaths become a thing of the past. He was very understanding and I did feel like he had heard my concerns.
