I went back in 2002 and encountered actual riot police, the most violent bar fight I’ve ever seen (at 2pm on a Sunday afternoon, no less) and a man dressed as a clown standing motionless in a youth hostel locker room. Fucking great holiday, no notes.

I'd always assumed he was coked to the eyeballs but the reports seem to be saying that he was sober and just... got really agitated by all the people so he started running them over? It makes no sense.

Our Hackney Labour councillor actually knocked on our door the other day, which shows how skittish they are because no one ever gets up the nerve to canvas our block.

The idea of sitting in a sauna with all your clothes on is fucking mad. My own sauna experience is very limited but it was a) same sex and b) towels on, which seems like a sensible compromise for shy English people.

My boy (aged 2) adores the Lion King remake but won’t watch the original. He just loves the animals, and as far as he’s concerned the CGI ones are real and the line animation ones are bullshit. Mind you, his tastes are entirely arbitrary so who knows what he’ll be into in future.

It’s such a pointless retread of the original that the screenwriters weren’t allowed to have a writing credit on it because it was too similar.

There’s a pair of twin boys at my lad’s nursery and their mum is French, so maybe the new French diaspora is starting in Hackney. Also they’re called Louis and Henry, which is a fun Easter egg for people who used to smoke weed in the nineties.

I cursed the telly when they came on BBC Breakfast this morning. She was saying they were doing this so “future generations” wouldn’t be caught out the same way. Which is unlikely, because future generations won’t be able to cowing retire at all.
