Last week we launched "IfM Skills Workshops", an occasional series focusing on methods and research skills. Sri Sai Priya Avuthu and Louison Thorens got us off to a great start in the inaugural workshop - hopefully the first of many - all about techniques for quantification of fluorescence images!

Hi there @brenttoderian.bsky.social !

Did you also foster bridging to Mastodon e.g. suggesting to people on your very fine list that they follow @ap.brid.gy ?

Latest Frankie update: she's not normally allowed in the kitchen (keeps licking the bread) but yesterday she found a loophole. Look at that smug face.

It's not too long since these classic trains ferried me to and from Paddington, so it is downright surreal to see their "adaptive reuse" on the Lagos Red Line in Nigeria.

Yesterday we were treated to a fantastic talk from Prof. Larry Bonassar (Cornell), courtesy of the #Northeastern Bioengineering seminar series. It was very interesting to see how our understanding of the structure and function of articular cartilage has evolved over recent years!

Just worked out how to properly tap in to the research computing cluster here at #northeasternuniversity , and this is honestly what it feels like

One of the all time great Map Men episodes. Also, you can see why the Dutch are so good at bike infrastructure. If you've literally made land itself, presumably anything feels possible.

Oh my goodness it actually worked! #quoots for everybody!
Anyway, I'll have a go at migrating to a fresh install on my old work laptop, as I'm running out of storage anyway!

So I tried to update to mastodon 4.5 last weekend but the rPi isn't very happy with it! Right now the web isn't working but the API is fine so I can still post this from fedilab. Like this […]

Some new bots to promote!

There's a lot of good memeposting on Lemmy that should be easier to see on here, and these accounts will boost a good chunk of it:

@lemmy_memes_booster
@history_memes_booster
@tech_memes_booster
@fandom_memes_booster

Give them a follow! #fedi

I only realised yesterday that my lemmy-post-boosting-bots stopped working... in JUNE!

Ah well, they're back up and running now on here: https://bots.lukejohns.online/

(It was because of changes in v4.4.0 ending support for username/password API logins - fair enough)

It's the 9th of #ssSnaketember and it's a day for looking at #InvasiveAlienSpecies

Burmese Pythons are native to India & southeast Asia. In these areas the #snakes have a #conservation status of 'vulnerable' on the IUCN Red List.

“Hearing” is #ssSnaketember the 8th’s theme!

Whilst #snakes do not have external "sticky out" ears, they can still hear. It is a myth that snakes are deaf, however they do have some quirks in relation to their methods of hearing.

The 7th #ssSnaketember is a day for Growling!
Even though many humans have never encountered a "real" #snake, thanks to film and TV, you will have probably heard a snake hiss.

But did you know that some #snakes can growl too?

#ssSnaketember the 6th is the day for Flying!

This #snake believes it can fly, believes it can touch the sky. Thinks about it every night & day, just to spread its wings and … oh wait ..,

This isn't flying, this is falling with style.

The 5th of #ssSnaketember is for Egg Eaters!

Can I offer you a nice egg in this trying time? Probably the best chat up line to use on a Dasypeltis #snake.

This group of snakes are also known as the Egg Eating Snakes.

But how does a snake eat something so round?
