The perception that independent coffee shops are expensive (they’re usually cheaper than the big chains) or some hipster paradise where beardy blokes talk about vinyl and judge you for having milk in your coffee (it’s mostly blokes wearing gilets on BT headphones) is entirely a creation of McDonalds
