What makes design truly great? It’s more than just looks. Think usability, accessibility, consistency, and real user value. I break down what “design quality” means, why it matters, and how to achieve it.

On the The broken rhetoric of AI: buff.ly/V9uJMMw

Key point: The way we talk about #AI often overstates its capabilities and misleads us. A more honest conversation is needed to ensure that AI’s real potential and limits are properly understood.

If you are at @figma.com 's #Config2025 come join @katielangerman.bsky.social and me for our talk on how designers can move their ideas forward by taking matters into their own hand and pushing outside of the traditional design role.

Very impressed by all the things @figma.com launched. if you are at #config2025 and see me, feel free to chat. Also come to the @github.com booth from 1:30 to 3:30 to chat with me.

Also finally type in path and texture effects 😍

New vector mode coming to @figma.com #config2025 maybe I can finally retire illustrator

Come join me in SF for a special pre-#config2025 on May 6!
With insights on design-to-development workflows and AI from @github.com and @figma.com experts.

Looking forward to seeing you there for a chat.

Looking forward to speaking @figma.com #config2025 together with @katielangerman.bsky.social

We'll share how to have more #impact and drive ideas forward by pushing beyond traditional #designRoles and get your hands dirty, even if you don't have permission. 🤫

See you in SF ☀️

A computer can never be held accountable, therefore a computer must bever make a management decision.
~ IBM, 1979 buff.ly/3EeXcvV

We had this issue with self-driving cars, the ever-growing advance of AI makes it more relevant every day. Never submit to the robot lord. 🦾

An excellent post on building #community by @lurkmoophy.bsky.social https://buff.ly/40hpPzI

Great points: Talk to people
- where they want to be talked to
- in the language they’re most receptive to
- at the frequency that will keep them most engaged

And split the effort between folks.

Excited to be talking about the #future of #designSystems on Thursday at #HelloDigital in Berlin.

It will be fun, it will be scary, it will get philosophical.
If you can, swing by and say hi.

#DesignDetail, I love @figma.com 's #Figjams text size selection. Quick & easy when specifics don't matter, but still quick with the input inside the dropdown, when defaults don't cut it.

Great to see them using a different approach to #Figma, which has a very different use case. ❤️

If you manage a design system this is a must read: https://buff.ly/4f2SwGg

Great process to manage requests for a design system by #agoda.

Specifically loved to learn about their prioritization process, focussing on impact, reusability, alternatives & complexity.

I often run into situations were folks don't really know what a design system is. We assume everyone is talking about #designSystems but this is just our bubble.

If someone you know needs an intro, this article is great to get started: https://buff.ly/2LlWT2d

Great read by #Uber: https://buff.ly/4fIapuv

Love this: "Balance system scale with health: Avoid unnecessary complexity that could jeopardize maintainability."

I had issues reusing #components parts. It can create complexity through nested dependencies, solutions?

Do you even need a #designSystem? Find it out now: https://buff.ly/4fv0FDg

DS bring value, but a great #ROI is not guaranteed. Simpler solutions like #design #libraries or standalone #designTokens may be a better choice. A DS built at the wrong time will likely fail.

A few best practices for adapting #dashboards for #mobile https://buff.ly/4eERZtw

I especially find the thoughts on making tables work on mobile very intersting.

Great way to create complex #animation #prototypes in #Figma https://buff.ly/3YGK4WV.

While it is quite work intense, it still feels like an ok ration of effort vs. result.

#Prototyping in @figma.com can get a bit daunting. So it's great to once in a while refresh your knowledge, for example with this awesome video from @miggi.me on some advanced techniques: https://buff.ly/40Foqom

Why is it cool to hate on design systems? Ridd explores this current notion of many designers: https://buff.ly/3NmWOwJ

Love this: The key is laser-focusing on the atomic level

Start with something like #designTokens to tie your product together without a huge time sink

I had a fantastic time giving a talk about #maintaining #designSystems at #Detach24 in Brazil 🇧🇷 (virtually 😅).

It was loosely based on my article on the topic: https://buff.ly/4i021IH but less focused on @figma.com and much more on how to generally maintain design systems.

Exciting project by @reallygoodwork.bsky.social Coral UI aims to rethink how design & dev teams collaborate and build products.

https://buff.ly/3MJYa40

I'm stoked about:
• Seamless bi-directional sync between design & code
• Tooling agnostic. Migrate from React to Svelte, etc. no prob.

An interesting approach to spacing in #designSystems using only two #designTokens and modes https://buff.ly/3JymRAj by @donnie.damato.design While it could be reproduced in Figma using modes, it is probably not that practical (as mentioned in the post). But a great read, nevertheless.

Nice thread on #mobile #design in @figma: https://buff.ly/4ez6AY3 Nothing shocking, but good to revisit your process.

Love the constraints. We tend to throw #autoLayout on everything. I see this when reviewing #Figma comp. Sometimes constraints the better solution
