From Freiburg, we took the quickest route home, and we were - to my surprise - mostly punctual.

After Lugano, we continued our journey towards Freiburg, where we spent the night before heading home.

It was only after we arrived home that I saw this youtube video about Freiburg by NotJustBikes, which highlights Freiburgs excellent tram infrastructure.

On the way back, we had planned a break of our journey in Lugano, where we had lunch overlooking the lake.

Temperatures where surprisingly pleasant, as the sun was out, despite the weather forecast having predicted rain and snow.

Before heading back, we went for a ride on the Ascensore Castello d'Albertis-Montegalletto, featured on Tom Scott's youtube channel as the "strangest elevator in Italy".

It travels horizontally over rails into the tunnel, before going up the elevator shaft.

From Como we took the regional train to Milan, where we spent the morning, before heading towards the Mediterannean coast.

Genoa is quite the spectacular place, with plenty of palazzo's you can visit, but above all, incredible views of the port and the sea.

This past weekend we went to Genoa by train. Although it's theoretically possible to get there in a day, we didn't want to take risks and spent the first night in Como.

Despite an hour delay, half of which was caused by a missed connection in Switzerland, it was quite a pleasant journey.

British stations are either magnificently beautiful or horrendously ugly. There's little to no middle ground, and some stations are - as much as this seems contradictory - both.
