Beautiful paper-covered book spotted on my recent trip to the VEC in Rome. 😍😍😍

A book in the process of being taken off the shelf — the archivist’s hand is visible. The book is one of a set which all have paper covers printed with a design that resembles small flying insects or perhaps birds in red and green ink. The paper itself is a creamy colour, and the spines visible on the other books in the set have darkened.

Some of the recently repackaged relics in the British Jesuit Archive looking like Christmas baubles when you get them out of the attic each year.
A storage box containing 48 small relics in individual compartments. The relics are jewel-like, with glass fronts.

Pushkin, the St Beuno’s cat finds the warmest flagstones. Everyone (including a lady in a wheelchair) negotiates round him.

I visited all three castles in the one day!
The interior of Caernarfon Castle taken through a hole in the wall. The grass is particularly bright green in the sunlight Beaumaris Castle reflected in its moat. The water is very still, the sky overcast Conwy castle on the banks of the River Conwy.

I’ve just spent the last few days helping preserve the rare books at St Beuno’s in North Wales. Tomorrow is a day off so plan to visit castles — I’m thinking Caernarfon, Beaumaris or Conwy but doubt I can manage all 3. Which to choose?
