“Universities are big sources of export earnings and key anchor institutions for many second and third-tier cities. The more they shrink, the more local economies will struggle” 📣📣📣
This is a vital essay by @johnspringford.bsky.social & @acjsissons.bsky.social - diagnosing the British malaise and providing a set of clear policy solutions. You will be much better informed for having read it getting-out-of-the-hole.uk

Visited Dundee’s Scrapantics this afternoon. What a treasure trove - kids spent all afternoon making miniatures with their loot.

Great way to spend a rainy Saturday

Shout out to the conductor on my ScotRail train this morning who encouraged passengers to look out for seals sunbathing on the rocks at Kinghorn/Burntisland.

A lovely message on a sunny commute.

We did a wonderful walk of juxtapositions yesterday along the canal from the Falkirk wheel to the Antonine Wall.

Herons and litter; the convenience stores of Bonnybridge leading to the John Muir Way; Roman forts with power lines; a Smiths toys trolley in a woodland

All of life in 4.2 miles.

SIW occur in April so inevitably are going to clash with some academic calendars? Have you experience of students asking for accommodations to participate in these schemes? How have you responded?

I wouldn’t be reading this on a Sunday if it wasn’t for work, but also reading an interesting book doesn’t really feel like work…

This is why I spend all week on emails and in meetings isn’t it?
