HVAC system reconstructions and replacements that occur during this period have null effects on behavioral outcomes, but improve math test scores by 0.03-0.04 standard deviations.

We show that students of color and economically disadvantaged students have greater rates of exposure to poor HVAC system conditions.

E.g. 18.3% of Black students and 17.6% of Hispanic students, as compared to 13.7% of White students, attend schools with inadequate ventilation.

We create a new dataset of all public NYS schools outside NYC from 2006 to 2019, linking education data to Building Condition Surveys.

These building inspections contain, notably, information on the condition of heating, ventilation, and AC systems, as well as dates of replacement.

I like this one from Rangel, Nobel, & Hamoudi, looking at effects of the Zika epidemic on the birth rate in Brazil. It's both dramatic looking and has some interesting take-aways in terms of anticipation and delayed/dynamic effects.
