In short, tackling energy poverty isn't a simple fix. It's about being human-centred, establishing relationship and trust with community long before the project; be adaptable, collaborative and focused on real-world solutions that make a difference in people's lives.

A teaser - we look here at what kinds of money is used for retrofit in our diverse sample of households from Glasgow, Otley and Brighton, UK. People draw on savings and inheritance to pay for renovations and retrofit with some also extending mortgages. Very few borrow short term for this work.

It shows that 50% of people cited using savings, 17% inheritance, 9% mortgage financing, 4% credit cards, 4% proceeds from a property sale, 2% borrowed from family, 2% money from a cancelled holiday, 2% equity release, 2% family debt repayment, 2% a hire purchase agreement, 2% life insurance, 2% rental income, and 2% service charge.
