James Dyson owns more UK land than the actual KING. But he pays an effective tax rate of LESS THAN 1%* on his total wealth.

Here’s a novel idea @keirstarmer: to fund schools and hospitals, TAX THE BILLIONAIRES.

Gameshittifaction
The last time I was at a studio with a layoff, a meeting was derailed because the director asked, with increasing irritation, which engineer was supposed to design a feature that underpinned the whole game. That engineer had been laid off 2 days prior, and no one else knew how to do it.
Layoffs wreck studios. Institutional knowledge is SO valuable in the games industry. When you eventually replace that laid off employee, I don’t care if they’ve got 30 years of experience and dozens of games under their belt. They still have to learn the pipeline, the software, the systems.

...yeah, I love the idea of European AI and Cerebras-hosted inference, but if Mistral is SOTA for EU LLMs right now, we're pretty much screwed 🫠

(just a sample question. I got so many hallucinations and made-up facts *despite* web search, like a model from 2022)

We need to tax wealth not work.

Why? Because usually no matter how hard you work, the compound interest on huge wealth grows much faster than your wages + the rich use this passive income to buy all the assets.

Someone made a game to show this:

It's another double win.

If you install solar panels on land sheep are currently grazing, not only can the sheep continue to graze there, they're actually *happier* (because of the shade and more diverse vegetation), and they produce more wool.

Hmm, is that actually a triple win?

Low interest rates after 2008 failed to achieve any real growth or increase in living standards in the UK.

If we stopped obsessing over rates, we might see how the resources are distributed – and how it's this that's holding our economy back, not monetary policy.

We ran a randomized controlled trial to see how much AI coding tools speed up experienced open-source developers.

The results surprised us: Developers thought they were 20% faster with AI tools, but they were actually 19% slower when they had access to AI than when they didn't.

Basically a good rule of thumb post 2018 is if the person selling a thing to you describes it as "AI", run away; and if the person selling it to you describes it as "machine learning", consider using it. If someone says "AI" that's a flag they don't think they can sell their product without lying
