In 2025, we celebrated the 150th anniversary of the LR USA office 🎉

Some wonderful photographs of an inspection by an LR Surveyor in Houston, Texas in 1981 and the Bethlehem-Sparrows Point Yard in Maryland with LR Classed Tanker, Loellia, under construction in 1959.

Earlier this week, we hosted research fellows funded by @lr-foundation.bsky.social in partnership
@uarctic.bsky.social at the Lloyd’s Register Building. These fellows are investigating how ‘learning from the past’ can help address present and future challenges to the safety of people in the Arctic.

This week, the team attended the UK Maritime Heritage Forum in Edinburgh. We came away understanding the sometimes difficult decisions in archival collection management, overcoming seablindness, and the use of maritime heritage for the provision of skills and safety awareness for the future 🌊
