Main findings

✅ The genetic capacity for sulfur compound oxidation and iron(III) oxide respiration co-occurs in genomes from 37 phyla

✅ Desulfurivibrio alkaliphilus grows autotrophically by oxidizing dissolved sulfide or iron monosulfide (FeS) to sulfate with ferrihydrite as electron acceptor

Remembering
Theodor Escherich 🕯️

✝️ February 15, 1911

A pioneer of microbiome science who discovered 🧫🔬the gut 💩bacterium Escherichia coli 🦠in 1885.

He was a pediatrician at the Universities of Graz and Vienna and rests in peace at the Hernals cemetery in Vienna 🇦🇹
