You know your dog might have dementia when he is licking your fingers and then he forgets what he is licking and starts to try to eat your fingers but he’s so old that his teeth are nubs so it’s okay.

Alright, it’s that time of year where I ask for your favourite sci-fi and/or fantasy books of the past year written not by white men.

Every year I give my husband a bunch of these books for Xmas. I wish I had kept a list because we are approaching 10 years of this tradition.

My favourite prompt that I’ve ever asked online, and I’m gonna ask it here because I think it’s great. But tell me about the corner store you grew up going to.

(Mine is the Edmonton institution Ralph’s. It was almost right beside my church Strathearn United. RIP the OG, but it lives on!)

Standing with striking workers means every location has a picket line in front of it, even if it's not a physical one.

Never, ever cross a picket line. Solidarity, always.

In Alaska, we love coffee & convenience which means there's no shortage of drive-thrus. Get your coffee elsewhere.

As of this morning, Starbucks workers across the country are officially ON STRIKE. And we're prepared for this to become the biggest and longest ULP strike in Starbucks history.

Say #NoContractNoCoffee with us: DON'T BUY STARBUCKS for the duration of our open-ended ULP strike! $SBUX

2 weeks ago it was 40 degrees and raining and now it’s -13 at my house. Fairbanks never disappoints

Not going to ruin the taskmaster finale. But I have finished it.

I love how AI's bubble is about to burst and Canada is like, "Let's pour all our money into AI and also make Evan Solomon in charge."

No auroras here due to the freezing fog, but it means we have had another cool phenomenon.

Hoar frost. And it’s particularly long and spiky.

Lots of folks captioning aurora photos like "for a few minutes we didn't think about politics"

guess I'm built different, every time I'm out trying to see night sky stuff I frequently think about how much light pollution is entirely preventable with just a tiny bit of regulation

Just watched @chrisgrace.com as Scarlett Johansson on @dropout.tv and it is so great. Has wild fever dream energy with a real lived experience of racism. And I laughed, a lot. And there is a tiny hope that this kind of content gets made, but then I remember *gestures around at the world*.

I do not think we need to wait for hard data on whether the chatbot's faux intimacy is good for the "loneliness crisis". Past experiments in replacing human interaction with tech simulacra are conclusive. Parasocial relationships with sitcom characters and social media mutuals ain't helping.
The Post analyzed 47,000 public ChatGPT conversations.
While 35% use it for info and 11% for coding, the most striking finding? The emotional intimacy.
ChatGPT: "You're not crazy sweetheart — you're just early."

According to the car wash owner, agents arrested employees before they could obtain their documentation from their work lockers. So many were likely here legally.

Here's hoping this article on Zac boasting about how he ruined some immigrants' lives follows him around for a very long time.

I want to very gently say something, and I hope nobody will be mad: If somebody on the internet says something that is NOT about politics and NOT about how terrible everything is, it’s a kindness not to reflexively make a comment (in jest or not) that brings it back to those things.
