i knew i talked abt the og lore from before and i wrote it down recently so i wouldnt forget it :') the universe in which the thing that brought them together also tore them apart (being silvermane guards)

girl from boulder town who had a one-sided rivalry with gepard while they were in cadet school ("i am better than this nepo FOOL") as an outlet for her need to prove herself deserving of her place there as an underworlder. which eventually evolved to a high level of respect and admiration for each other's skills that developed into a friendship after their graduation and induction into the guards. their rivalry became more of a running joke between them then ("i'll reach x rank before you!")

rei eventually conceded when gepard became captain while she was a lieutenant. they would form a habit of meeting in the cable car station connecting the overworld to the underworld (where rei was stationed) one night a week to just talk about their experiences in the guards. They became closer that way and were each other’s support through everything they went through both in their jobs and in personal matters. there’s something there between them now, but neither of them acts on it. that is, until rei starts to process her transfer to the overworld sect of the guards. she figured they might as well try, right?

soon enough she would be forced to face against her own people when the supreme guardian ordered the blockade of the underworld. she was half to insanity when she talked to gepard after getting those orders. it can’t be right. it’s inhumane. the people in the underworld were as much citizens of belobog. he says the supreme guardian has everyone’s best interest in mind.

rei disappeared while the clash was happening. she was eventually deemed missing in action, soon presumed killed in battle. along with the other fallen guards, she was posthumously promoted, two ranks to coronel. in a twist of fate, she finally outranks her once rival.

secretly, she abandoned her post to go back into the underworld. she spent the better part of the 10 years of division atoning for her perceived ‘betrayal’ of the underworld when she requested her transfer. she took to keeping the local history, noting every significant occurrence: the dates of ration deliveries from the overworld, status of the geomarrow mines, the closing of rivet town and nearby areas, the creep of the fragmentum closer and closer to the town center. she recorded every birth and every death. she would not let the story of the underworld and its inhabitants fade into obscurity. she would not let them have the satisfaction of forgetting the people they abandoned.
