Last year, our local authority widened our tiny brook to make an area of wetland. It hasn't taken long for the new habitat to become established and attract all sorts of wildlife. Like these grey herons and egrets. All this in just 12 months!

Today my son refused to go to school unless it was in anything other than his PE kit (purely for image reasons). This afternoon he comes home with this choice of #reading book📕 A career in #fashion design surely beckons… yep he is probably going to be #gay &no, I’m not even slightly bothered by that

The best part of nabbing a well-priced beef tenderloin at Costco? After the main event for guests, you save the melt-in-your-mouth petite filets for yourselves.

The fun of excavating your freezer during the Saharan heat: finding homemade tortellini and ravioli that can become pasta alla panna — if you have Ed to make it so.

1/2 Lovely date night at Bistro La Floraison:
A snack of savory French onion financiers followed by a summer tomato and peach salad (for Ed) and smoked trout toasts (for me). And THEN …

Turns out, if you have amazing short rib leftovers from Bistro La Floraison, your home chef can transform them into savory ravioli filling.

Bachelor night kept me close to home with an eye to comfort food:
Brasserie by Niche provided me a lovely banquette table and their primo double smashburger with piping hot shoestring frites.
Someone is sleeping well tonight. 🌙

Summer in Missouri means: Summer Sausage!
And the wurstmeisters at Gioia's Deli have great take-home options for your patio parties.
I scored both the cheddar AND the jalapeño / pepper-jack varieties for August gatherings.
It’s #stlmade so that you can #eatlocal.

Even if you’re not in a mood for their classic salamis and beef, Gioia's Deli still has you covered if you want your sandwich #stlmade.
I went for the humble turkey but loaded it with my choice of cheese (provel, of course) and toppings (pepperoncini for me, but you do you).

We treated ourselves to a late dinner at Pizzeria da Gloria where I discovered their seasonal treat involving crunchy summer corn, red scallions, and pancetta studding the creamy cheese. Perfect Neapolitan crust: speckled underneath with a slightly “wet” center. Just the thing AND you can #eatlocal

The Royale looks like a neighborhood joint but in reality offers high-end fare.
Ed went w/ the chopped Brussels sprout salad, feat. apples, shallots, pecans, parm, balsamic glaze.
I went all in on the brisket tacos w/ bell peppers, onions, cabbage, derby sauce — plus a jalapeño margarita with tajin!

Because I’m a noodle hound, my new favorite dish at Saigon Cafe is their Mi Hoành Thánh: shrimp wontons, char siu pork, Asian egg noodles, and veg in a rich chicken broth. That plus crispy Chả Giò Chay made for a great summer lunch — and only two blocks from home! #eatlocal

With deference to the master, @kzieff.bsky.social , Ed was in a mood for BLTs while local tomatoes are in season. Note that white bread is THE only option. (I’ll double my statin drug and visit Andy at Crown Candy Kitchen soon for his award-winning version.)

I’ve been craving a St. Louis-style pizza, so I used my bachelor-lunch time to score the best: Guido's Pizzeria & Tapas made me a crispy-crust treat w/ salsiccia, artichokes & pepperoncini, PLUS the Platonic ideal of a St. Louis Hill salad, w/ generous artichokes, black olives & pimientos. #eatlocal

The best part of weeknight meatloaf is leftovers for sandwiches the next day.
Ed ground his beef with cured pork jowl for a moist, smoky umami-bomb, and Tony Packo's sweet-hot pickles and peppers were a perfect accompaniment.
