I live in Tkaronto, the traditional territory of many nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples and is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. I am honoured that they share this land with me.

Just compare the US to Canada, or the Democratic Socialist countries in Northern Europe. The US has nearly double the % of its population living in poverty as Canada. Among the 35 OECD countries the US has the 5th highest Gini index. I expect the US numbers will get much worse given current policies

Completely free markets results in the highest level of billionaires. Democratic Socialism results in the highest quality of life for everyone. It is this that drives the middle class.

Unfettered capitalism is what has polarized the US into an Oligarchy. We need to maintain regulatory guardrails in Canada so that prosperity is broad based.

Left wing extremism is a lot lower than right but still exists. This study of domestic extremism from 2015-2019 showed 7 events out of 85 (8.2%) to be from the left. I suggest we’d be more effective pushing back on right wing extremism by pushing back on it all.
