Rely on the teaching, not the teacher.
Rely on the meaning, not the words.
Rely on the definitive meaning, not the provisional meaning.
Rely on primordial wisdom, not consciousness’

Good morning friends at Bluesky. I wake up with the thought that the road is made because we walk it. Regardless of the fog and uncertainty, it will still be good.

"Dharma" teachings arise naturally as the Universe's compassion for its own suffering.

These teachings arise as all religions, spirituality, or beliefs that help remove the causes of our suffering.

Even if we do not practice "dharma," we can appreciate a sense universal self-compassion.

Wrote a piece a few yrs ago on contemporary interest in "mindfulness." Sadly interesting—such practice is the heart of contemplative traditions, but some modern Westerners can't decide if it's religion. Our presumptive definitions of "religion" need to be interrogated. thesideview.co/journal/deco...

Reflecting on Kusan Sunim’s “the demon of joy” and the Dalai Lama on joy and happiness,: equanimity is joyous moments without clinging to them. The joy of seeing our mother’s homemade birthday cake arises naturally, but lasting happiness isn’t dependent on it. It’s joy without attachment or aversion

I wanted to post a poem by Denise Levertov today in lively response to current events, but I decided to share a quote from her essays about stopping "the accelerating tumble,” instead, for anyone who might appreciate her eloquent gifts and passionate love of life.

“I’ve always felt the it’s NOT the moon ( the destination) nor the finger (the beginning) but the path which is important”… john (from comments)
What the “Finger Pointing to the Moon” analogy really means – from Zen Buddhism, the Buddha in the Shurangama Sutra
“It is like the finger pointing to the moon…” said Bruce Lee in Enter the Dragon. Where did this imagery originally come from?  It comes from the Shurangama Sutra, a core text for…

“……. equanimity calls for engagement with life, not turning away in indifference.
In my experience, I’m happy when I’m able to open-heartedly accept my life as it is right now—even if the present moment is a sad or difficult one. That’s inner peace. That’s equanimity. That’s happiness.”
Equanimity: The Key to Happiness
Equanimity is an even-tempered state of mind that enables you to ride life’s challenges with calmness and serenity, instead of being tossed about like a ship in a storm.
