Hi! This is my first time here, so I guess I'll introduce myself? I'm Louisa. I love to paint outside with the goals of capturing the fleeting senses of light, place, & time felt there. Thank you for taking the time to look at my artwork, and I hope it brings you some joy!

The past few weeks have been stressful, but I've still been able to research and practice some oil glazing techniques.
I think I might have added too much oil to the middle layer on this painting, so I really hope the top layer stays okay, because I like how the artwork turned out! ^_^

I got to try out my new pochade box for the first time today!

The newest version of my tiny pochade box is finally existing, not just a draft on my computer! It's not glued together yet, but I'm really happy with how it's turning out. And it's fun to see how it compares to the other two boxes I made before it! ^_^

After letting the paintings dry for a few weeks, scanning them, color correcting the scans, and waiting for them in the mail, my new set of prints is here!
I'm proud of how these turned out. 😄

I don't think I'll ever get tired of the adventure of painting outdoors 😊🖌️

I love this steep road, and how it winds down through the hills. ^_^ Plein Air landscape from today, Oil on panel, 4x6".

I wasn't able to capture the rich color of the poppies like I wanted, but it was still a good painting session!

It was a beautiful day for plein air painting, and I found a field covered with wild rose bushes!

I always seem to be drawn to paint old sheds and weathered buildings—maybe they just seem full of character, and like they have a story to tell. ^_^

I went up to the hills today to find them covered in yellow lupine! They're a complex flower to paint, I hope I get the chance to try again and focus on the details more.

Found my happy place yesterday, laying out in the grass with the wildflowers! ^_^
I'm pretty sure these flowers are Balsamroot and not Mule's Ear, but sometimes they can be hard to tell apart.

More Grass Widows! 😀 I tried a slightly different technique, and I think I captured the light in the petals better than last week's painting.

Grass Widows are one of my very favorite flowers—something to look forward to in the early spring when the cold and snow from winter often still linger.
I couldn't find any where I used to live in Idaho, so I was so happy to stumble on this patch yesterday! ^_^

I broke out the oils for the first time in awhile! (And only got just a little bit of paint on my clothes, so I'd call the outing a success! ^_^)

A view from my window. It was really windy today, with the clouds moving quickly, and there was a thin stripe of beautiful warm light on the horizon. 😊

I think I managed to capture the colors pretty well in this painting, and I love how it turned out!

I realized last night that I have not even started on my December challenge for this year! 0.0
Since 2011 I've been painting variations of the same scene in December/January. I was so busy moving this year that I completely forgot until last night. Let's see if I can still make it!

It's been a pretty foggy/cloudy winter so far, but I'm learning how to see the beauty in that, too! =)
(Does it count as plein air if I'm painting inside from a window? lol)

I've been focusing on opaque mediums for awhile, but looking back at some of my older art makes me want to try watercolors again!

I recently moved, so I haven't gotten my paints out for several weeks. I hope I can get outside to paint soon!!
