I genuinely think we live in a golden age of kids non-fiction, so I’m very excited for us to celebrate #NonFictionNovember with this week’s #KidsBooksFriday.

What brilliant non-fiction would you recommend? This is another week where I can’t possibly stop at four.

I’ve been in a right reading slump lately. I’m conscious it’s often just the right book coming along at the right time that does the trick, but what books have helped you or the kids in your life get out of a reading slump?

It’s #DyslexiaAwarenessWeek in Scotland this week and in the rest of the UK next week. As a dyslexic reader myself I wanted to use #KidsBooksFriday this week to celebrate brilliant, accessible and super-readable texts of all kinds.

I’m thrilled to see 2 comics on this year’s #WorldBookDay lists. A lot of folk don’t know where to start with comic books, so for this week’s #KidsBooksFriday, what kids comic books might folk not already know about but should definitely go and seek out? #KidLitUK #UKKidLit #KidLit #KidsGN📚💬

This week at work we were chatting about cosy, comforting reads. At the current time, books that help kids find comfort are more important than ever, but might take different forms for different kids. What comforting reads would you recommend for #KidsBooksFriday?

Angela Rayner accidentally pays less tax than she should have, resigns, and the media gives her hell.

Nigel Farage deliberately pays less tax than he should have, and the media gives him a free pass.

That, right there, is the problem.

I was happy to see @thebookseller.com feature a podcast that @grainneobrien.bsky.social & I are launching in Sept to highlight great Children’s and YA books! The idea is very simple - each episode is 10 minutes long and will discuss the book - we’ll also have author chats and giveaways!

Schools are back this week in Scotland. So at @samcreighton.bsky.social’s suggestion, this week’s #KidsBooksFriday is about great books to share with a new class of kids. I’m not a teacher but I think these are all great books to read to kids as a first port of call. #UKKidLit #KidLit #KidLitUK

the phrase “moral panic” gets thrown around a lot but I’m not sure what other reaction I’m supposed to have to the information that facebook, on purpose, built chatbots for the purpose of having cybersex with children
This is bonkers.

A sunday question for the #UkKidlit gang - what's a children's book you've read recently that you push upon anyone who'll listen? The one that turns you into the ancient mariner, forcing people to listen to you about it?

Sunday reading and it's Make Me a Monster by @kalynnbayron.bsky.social. Halfway through and it is exquisite! Publishes September and I know our YA fans will love it!

I grew up knowing nothing of this – luckily there are now great books for teachers, educators and parents with a global perspective on WW2 for young readers.
(personally have mixed feelings about VE/VJ day and would prefer the International Day of Peace (21st September) marked instead) #kidlituk
