When watching shows in target language (French), I like when subtitles match perfectly.
But if they don't match, I make note of:
* what subtitles say
vs.
* what I heard
Often, the difference shows the difference in spoken vs written language.
I also note useful nouns, verbs, phrases. #polyglot

Realizing how different formal, written French as it's taught to foreigners is from the French language as it's normally spoken—and not just slang—was a game changer.

A1 at the supermarket. C1 in politics and history.
Don't give me a grocery list in Catalan. Last time I didn't know the word for salad and carrot. But do ask me to explain Belgian's political structure in detail from a historical perspective.
