It’s all these creators who don’t seem to actually LIKE TV— and make “ten hour movies”. Obviously there are great one offs and flashback episodes but this alllllways feels like sloppy cleanup or scrambling to fill time.

raged out when Alien Earth did this. If all this stuff that happened around the pilot was important… maybe it should have been in the pilot?

Just when I was actually invested in the moment to moment drama and characters… Noah Hawley might as well have said “stop caring” to my face

Is this exclusively for an audience of Unhinged Chain Email Enjoyers?
Forward to five people or [insert racist catastrophizing here]

Need to see more of her stuff, this one REALLY stuck with me

exactly! which is why the movie's attempt to sanitize lines to appease gen z fails.

"You can't join Mathletes! It's social suicide!" did not need to be softened to "socially ruinous!" they're MEAN girls!

Soooo fucking good. Perfect LA movie about wondering if you’re the weird one at the party and finding out that, instead, you’re in grave danger.

Don't Trust the B in Apartment 23 "Love and Monsters"

"That's why I made you a video about your love. It's set to a Train song. And I didn't have any pictures of Benjamin so I just used clips of Dave from Happy Endings."

Do you watch or have you watched any reality/unscripted stuff? If not, has anything piqued your interest from afar?

the hype cycle is really ruining everything! I’m tired of being in theaters and feeling let down when I see something good because it wasn’t (for me) the revelatory masterpiece film twitter promised.

A little of column A, a little of column B

I am, uh, genuinely asking.

Because these attitudes are scaring the uncreative people who hold the purse strings-- which only leads to bad things. They're making creators less ambitious AND less willing to share their craft with people at home who want to learn. Something has to give.

And they're so entitled to what they want, they consider not getting it harm. How do we show these people that the greatest narrative joy is to be SURPRISED? To get something you actually didn't want at all and LOVE IT! To think all is lost for your hero before they manage to turn the tide!

When we devalue the unexpected/difficult/painful/uncomfortable or WHATEVER, we rob ourselves of so much! The rigidity and fundamental lack of curiosity is scary and destructive!
Because these people don't want art. They want a custom instant gratification machine. They want what THEY want.

Also it isn't just ships. We see it from people who demand "soft" content or Happy Endings or ELSE. Just like we see some sects of fandom that are impossible to please because nothing can make you twelve and watching Empire Strikes Back again. Or at least not yet. But that's where AI comes in.

Thanks to (tim robinson voice) OUR PHONES and stuff, life is becoming more frictionless for people who want to avoid ever having to be uncomfortable or impatient or disappointed. But drama is created by conflict!

Maybe your faves fought this week but maybe they'll kiss next week. Or they won't!

What an audience wants vs. what it needs are different things. And it's ok for most viewers/readers/consumers to not know the difference!

But to be prescriptive about what is and isn't allowed to happen in a story is not your job. It's the person telling the story you claim to care so much about.
