Second, bc interaction w bots is built exclusively on the user's terms, it fosters self-serving relationships and power imbalances, even depriving the ex-partner of an unrelinquishable normative power. Precisely what feminist philosophers warn about romantic life/3

First, they put users in an imaginary relationship. Here I make an analogy with Tom Hanks's relationship with Wilson (drawing from Norlock's original example). Unlike Tom&Wilson, the relationship w the bot is grounded on misdirected love, so bots keep the user engaged in a meaningless project/2

Some academic conferences are treasurable spaces to meet new people, get together with old friends and share research with keen students—and this was one of those. Thanks @bexmillar.bsky.social, @lucyosler.bsky.social and staff and students at @cardiffphilosophy.bsky.social! (It was not sad at all)

Absolute nerd dream of finishing a workshop on local normative theory with a city tour of Manchester led academics from the UOM’s Urban Lab

However it cannot beat this absolute gem which is my favourite find so far. So brilliantly attention seeking that it would probably deserve its own post in the Daily Nous. Not that the handles are UNDER your legs and it has pedals. Just in love w the Sinclair

A steam lorry. I don’t know what this is really but I could consider becoming a quirky staple on Cambridge roads driving it

Why would you want a bus stop if you don’t have a bu—don’t worry I got you covered, shame that ‘charming teenagers’ wrecked it but a great project to restore if Labour doesn’t fix the housing crisis. If you want something more finished there is actually another bus for sale by a different person

Because we were moving (and a super stressful move), this year we won’t really go on holiday, so instead I am passing my time finding absurd and amazing things in Facebook Marketplace. Let’s start strong. A bus stop:

Just attended a fantastic panel on 'Just and Unjust Cities' as part of the conference dedicated to Jo Wolff's work (after a really cool panel on methodology and with some other interesting stuff to come on health, equality and public philosophy). Here's two works on urban justice to look out for:

Today I should be travelling to Berlin to participate in a symposium on Federica Gregoratto’s ‘Love Troubles’ with this amazing line up, but my gallbladder resigned from its position last month and I am still in recovery. Hoping to get some fomo here from @lukebrunning.bsky.social

Today, on Zoom and open to everyone ⬇️ Even if you are not a philosopher you will really enjoy this webinar, which also includes a discussion on how we use philosophy in our lives and society, by the authors of this book

Carme also gives a shoutout to what is, in my opinion, one of the best break-up counterstories in mainstream media--La La Land. I like her reflection about how the end imagined sequence shows how many things would have had to be different for them to have staid together!/3

Every time I watch Spanish TV I get caught by surprise by the fact that we have apple commercials in prime time. Lower case apples 🍎, like different brands. Where do apple businesses get all that money? Is there a secret lower case apple market war? I don’t even know where in Spain we grow them!

Although I am very excited about the future, one thing I know for sure is that it will be extremely hard to ever work with a group of people as outstanding as Tilburg’s philosophy dept. It’s not merely sentimental praise—I am convinced of it, and immensely grateful for having had them as colleagues

I ended scrubbing it off with soap and leaving instead the most important piece of knowledge in that board: the number of IT services, who are the goats of the university admin together with the Library people

I’m clearing up my Tilburg office and wondering what to do with these notes for a paper on narrative responsibility that is yet to be started, and which I suspect won’t come out easily since I wrote these in 2023. It could perhaps be my legacy

Help me choose the logo for my project on the affective dimensions of urban justice! I have narrowed it down to these three -- which one is your favourite and why?

It’s official: I’ve been awarded a MSCA-YUFE postdoc fellowship and in Feb’25 I move to the Univ of Antwerp, where I’ll carry out a a 3-year project titled Affect In the City (AFFINITY): The emotional dimensions of urban justice. Lefevbre meets non-material justice meets situated affectivity! 🚶🏽♀️🌇

This just arrived and it will probably be the first reading of 2025. It is a sociology/equality studies conceptual framework of affective justice that I think has flown under the radar for philosophers working on the topic (I discovered it through Bluesky; let me know if I’m wrong)
