"it was a calculated withdrawal, from the life of the Republic, from its machinery. Since they could not have withdrawn into a vacuum (could they?), there had to exist the separate, silent, unsuspected world."
you miss the point. To enjoy a game you need to be properly introduced to it.
You don't need to repeat the introduction 10 times. You need one, and it needs to be good.
Everything they replaced, was replaced by something worse.

the problem with the campaigns being so long gone is that people like you completely forgot how they worked

when learning the game and introducing systems progressively to new players.

Anything but SURPRISING that a game where players are only able to quit eventually goes down to zero.

Being gargantuan is the whole point of DQVII. It's a magnificent journey where even in the middle you look back in awe at how much has already happened, how many people you've met, and how many stories you've taken part in. Streamlining it is not a great idea

you make effort and take risks by advancing deep into a map, getting low on health or resources. The moment all of this is made significantly easier, there's no "game" left. And it's not like you play these early game for "the story".

translation seemed quite decent, the main difference in gameplay I think is that the original is a lot more grindy/deadly, which is basically what the game is. The moment you remove that type of attrition everything else is so effortless that it feels like nothing.

"Which was an unkind thing to say about his sister, especially with her not bein there to defend herself, though it was true, she did have in her gait a wanderin way some called lame but their Aunt Lissie called a signature of beauty, because beauty ain’t beautiful if it ain’t unique."

more and more, the facade of thinking like realpolitik seems to have faded away and all we see is mask off Ideology.

there's been so many political events in the usa that make no coherent sense in political science unless you realize it's just been people in power doing heinous shit for themselves.
