Chance and the Time Wizards’ Curse follows the adventure of a young adventurer trapped in a repeating moment of time. She must restore the shattered time crystal atop the Wizards’ tower to bring progress back to the land of Overdale.

Iterating Sprite style until I find ‘the one’. Last one felt just a little too tall.

Latest goes back toward the Moonlighter style that inspired me in the first place.

Did a fun exercise to showcase one of my simplest yet most charming of enemies, the humble slime. All they really want to do is hang out in the forest and live their happy lives.

Chance's animations are still old but the dungeon sprites from the art test look super nice in-game. Has that #zelda feel just moving around.

Plenty still to do but off to a good start in 2025.

So, there has to be a better version of the sprite and tilemap editor in Unity right? Godot 4's is way better at this point and let's face it, that's not perfect.

Anyone found any good tools to try?

Some more reflection on 2024: Chance is a Zelda-like and based on the ALttP Randomizer romhack concept. I spent a some of March learning to build the logic so that the player can always unlock every chest.

Some reflection on 2024: Chance went through some changes as I began to learn #pixelart in May.

I was using her previous design in-game for a while but felt I improved my style after months of practice so I redid the sprite.

Using the scene test to crate some props, details and doors for the dungeons.

Updated the floor colour to improve the contrast between characters, traversable and non-traversable areas.

Still retaining those #Zelda vibes.

Doing some lovely dungeon design for Chance at the moment. So here is a question: what are your favourite 2D Zelda dungeons?

I am a big fan of Palace of Darkness and Turtle Rock in aLttP.

For the first year in quite a few I simply don't have a Game of the Year - I haven't played enough and what I did play doesn't live up to the title really.

I could probably do a 'disappointment of the year' from games I have played but it would be pretty controversial.

Chests change depending on the area Chance is exploring so you have to be on the lookout for them in a new area, they might be a bit better at blending in.

Chests are a big part of Chance’s journey. Every time she collects a time crystal all her belongings get scattered around the world again, so she must find these chests to recover her items!

As such, they also deserved a bit of a glow-up.
