My wife’s grandad had a fish and chip shop in Crewe in the 50s. He once went to view a new (electric) range in Oldham. On the way back he stopped for a pint pulled by hangman Albert Pierrepoint at the pub he ran, presumably the Help the Poor Struggler on Manchester Road.
