like you mentioned in 2016 you were this unstoppable angry guy, but with the home base in eternal, i feel like they were thinking “what if this unstoppable angry guy was me”. its funny and i really dont find it cringe, but it does make doom guy’s character more concrete and less relatable for me

for the home base thing, I dont have a strong opinion on this but I do find it kinda funny because to me, adding that home base and the collectibles with it, kinda feels like devs’ self insert wish fulfillment, and a bit out of character for doom guy? I guess its a little bit too far for me lol

and when you complete these contracts you get faction exp, when you rank up a faction they plays you a briefing, as a sort of story progression. i enjoy this a lot, and its just the alpha, no doubt bungie will expand on this. im not selling this game or anything, but its definitely worth the try :3

each faction have their own objectives. for example one faction is more research focused, they want you to download biological data from the colony. and another gives you contracts to shoot uesc bots, because they wanna use you as distraction for their own salvage mission.

factions and contracts really gave me a sense of direction and participation in something bigger than just mess around shoot people and build my character.

sadly it’s not gonna be f2p…
but I think they did a solid attempt at storytelling in an extraction shooter with marathon2025. I definitely agree a lot of things are still rudimentary in the alpha but the faction system is really promising and is my favorite part about the game

i share the same sentiment before looking much into the game, but after looking into and actually experience the alpha, I’d say I look forward to play marathon2025, and the extraction genre is really not a bad fit for the franchise, you can definitely try it out if you are interested :3
