@jorkussmellington.bsky.social On coffee (and really, I would say most other food-related questions OTHER than unchecked consumption of red meat, which the biggest single food-related source of emissions and unsustainable use of land/water resources), this post makes an excellent point!

In case you're wondering, it takes 10 months to get a new patient appointment with a neurologist for an already diagnosed condition. Ouch.

Related: the super glue repair on my glasses has failed, and I'm down to one arm.
This package tracking is odd. So many repeated notifications. I really just need to know when it moves from one city to another and when it's out for delivery.

My father mentioned wanting to can some garden produce using a recipe from Joy of Cooking. My father has never exactly followed a recipe in his life. You cannot mess around with canning.

"I'm just using peppers instead of cucumbers."

"You can't do that. Refrigerate it."

Coloradan: [long rant about plowing compared to other snowy places]

Me: I just moved here from Texas. When it snows 0% of the roads get plowed and the power goes out for a week. Hundreds of people die.

there's a certain personality that's very debilitating in modern life. 100 years ago, if you wanted to buy something, you'd go to five local shops and decide. now with the internet, you need to spend 1,000 hours so you can own the best version in the world like you're some venetian patrician

We're shopping for the niblings, and my inner 11 year old really wants this.

(My actual 11 year old self had a much nicer sanrio one that I saved up many weeks for.)

I just picked up three months of insulin for two people. Now I'll be anxious about the fridge accidentally freezing it all.

(Notice the old box of Levemir in the back. I'm allergic to Lantus, and I'll be hanging on to that Levemir long after it expires. There's not another good backup insulin.)

Whenever there's rain (and I guess now snow) I just want to putter around in cozy clothes doing things and drinking tea. I've done so many tasks I've been avoiding, but if this doesn't stop soon I'm going to drop with exhaustion.

Brb. Gotta grab a tape measure.

Just shoveled my first sidewalks. I'm sure it will be a more miserable task when it's not so novel, but for now it's my favorite kind of exercise: useful and outdoors.

Denver confidence based numbers:

Higher confidence forecast than usual. After 9a totals will be the wild card in Denver.

Airport/official obs will probably come in 2-3" lower than downtown.

I've been back volunteering at a library for half an hour, and I've already seen someone do something bizarre. It's like I never left. ❤️

I'm reading through The Book of Jewish Food by Claudia Roden.

Reviews mentioned that the Sephardic section is much better than the Ashkenazi section.

Just in the first chapter with recipes, I can see that's true. The main latke recipe doesn't include onion or black pepper.

I swear there must be so many more differences in the way our minds work that we haven't teased out because they're so hard to describe.

No apple, no audible voices. But no, that doesn't mean my thoughts are peaceful or calm. It does make meditation based on visualization useless, though.
What’s your score on the apple test?

Minor pet peeve: conflating xeriscaping with native gardening.

In some places there's a large overlap. And you don't need to be a purist about natives to support local plants and animals. But the book my neighbor just lent me about xeriscaping in our region has only three pages on native plants.
