None of which I would especially mind if the tech worked well (it doesn’t), was trained ethically (usually isn’t) and wasn’t environmentally ruinous. It’s bizarre that there even needs to be a discussion. It’s like debating whether or not to introduce nuclear powered calculators in a math class.

I read Robin Wall Kimmerer's book The Serviceberry and some of the things she says in that book really affected me. "Store your abundance in those around you." I don't mean to appropriate something that's not mine but I think about those words every day and I hope to do right by them

Australia's humpback whales are doing so well that their population is expected to reach carrying capacity and plateau in the near future--they have not just reached but exceeded pre-whaling numbers. For this to happen with such a long-lived, slow-reproducing species is near miraculous. #goodnews

Once hunted almost to extinction, the population of humpback whales currently migrating down Australia's east coast has bounced back and is now greater than before whaling.

I used to have a joke about how I wanted to die a trillionaire and the have my funeral at a major amusement park. It would culminate in my body being trebucheted into the park and attendees getting part of my fortune proportional to the amount of it they could recover. This is SLIGHTLY less gruesome
