This admin is taking its lead from Jim Crow and calling for the removal of “illegal” diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility from schools.

Just because Secretary McMahon doesn't know something doesn't mean students across America should be deprived of learning history.

I was a first-gen, working-class Black student who took on student loans to get here.

This GOP budget would've slammed that door shut on me—and now it will for future generations.

We should be expanding access to college, not widening the achievement and racial wealth gap.

Trump’s action to illegally dismantle the Department of Education is dangerous and would abandon our children and our communities.

My full statement:

The Trump administration’s plan to dismantle the Department of Education will devastate millions of families, strip resources from schools, and leave our most vulnerable children behind. They can’t just chalk this one up as ‘reform.’ This is an outright assault on public education and a calculated decision to abandon students across the country. Schools will be unequipped to provide children with disabilities access to the special education services they are legally entitled to. Federal funding for critical services like speech therapy, occupational therapy, and individualized learning plans will disappear. Low-income, first-generation, and working students wanting to pursue higher education could lose access to financial assistance and support programs that make higher education attainable. I led my colleagues in calling on the Dept. of Education to rescind their harmful threats.
