Kyle Kingsbury is not a journalist. He is not an op-ed writer.

He is a computer safety researcher.

And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

In under 1600 words.

The @nytimes.com is a disappointment.
More people marched today than at any time in the history of the United States.

For @nytimes.com, it was the 6th most important story.

They are making sure that those in power do not see what they do not want to see.

This is not what we were brought up to think of as journalism.

Postwar attempts to rebuild American downtowns for the convenience of suburban drivers fail because cities cannot compete with the suburbs on ease of driving and parking; and attempting to do so destroys the vibrant street life that makes cities worth living in or visiting in the first place.
If your downtown still has many wide and fast one-way streets, then your priority is to move cars as fast as possible thru a weak downtown. It’s NOT to create a vibrant downtown, help downtown retailers, keep people safe, support walkability and accessibility, reduce pollution, etc. #TrafficSewers

A project to provide 68 homes delayed by over a year. Imagine how much that delay increases the cost of those homes—the extra lawyers, the increase in the cost of materials and labour over that time, the uncertainty of whether it will move forward. No wonder developers prefer to build luxury housing
Let's talk about NIMBYs and how they work to create a housing crisis shall we?

This is David, David lives in an 11k sq foot mansion and has seen his house value increase by one million dollars over the past 8 years. David wants to block 68 families from having a home

Anyone have suggestions for what to do with ~24 hours in London? I’ve been a few times before, so not looking for the classic tourist stuff.

One of my favourite things about Montreal is the significant tree canopy across the city and the planters on the sidewalks and medians
Montreal has installed curb-extensions or 'bump-outs' at intersections across the City to make pedestrian crossings safer while adding needed greenery to urban neighborhoods. Intersections with these treatments had a 25% lower rate of vehicle on pedestrian crashes.

The media can (and should) reject the Right's deceptive frame. This is not about "references to diversity, equity, and inclusion."

It is a neosegregationist attempt to erase everyone but white males from the nation's history.
Arlington National Cemetery has scrubbed information about prominent Black, Hispanic and female service members and topics such as the Civil War from its website, part of an effort across the Defense Department to remove all references to diversity, equity and inclusion from its online presence.
Arlington Cemetery website scrubs links about Black and female veterans
Pentagon leaders have ordered that their websites and social media pages remove articles and images that “promote” DEI.

Absolutely this! The federal government is massive and much of what it does is very niche and not legible to most of the country, but it’s incredibly effective and valuable work!

We should also highlight the incremental improvements that have compounded over the decades.
The thing that everyone thinks is nuts, but I absolutely think would work: a presentation that looked like an Apple keynote product launch, but for all the cool shit that the government makes for people. Cancer treatments, national parks, space discoveries, free tax filing, cool new airports.
If you were in Congress, what would you do for the State of the Union? What do you think Dems should do?

So much this! We force everyone to drastically overbuild parking. The end result is a boring streetscape full of pavement, and that it’s miserable to get anywhere without a car.

I wish I could see the rest of this article because parts 1 and 2 are exactly what Democrats should be doing. There should be billboards everywhere highlighting every single Republican failure and embarrassment.
wild that Bill freaking Kristol can see more clearly and has more of a spine than half the Dems in Congress www.thebulwark.com/p/democrats-...
