Lived in Windsor Park from 61 to 83. South end of Drake close to Cottonwood. Met my wife in elementary school. Lots of good memories from those years. I guess yesterday’s Grey Cup will also be a good memory for some folks.

Joanne, my wife, and I are the same age so we knew each other from school. I had a friendly rivalry with Joanne about school grades. Only visited the house a couple of times to borrow some books from her. We went to Joanne’s first wedding and also met John once or twice in Winnipeg.

I grew up in Windsor Park and knew some of the kids/families on Boulder Bay. Conklin, Stoesz, Thomas.

Apology for my careless and thoughtless reading of your post, your gracious response is appreciated.

On a different topic, are you able to suggest a good natural history/ecology book focusing on MB, for the general reader? No luck so far at the library or at bookstores.

Sorry to hear about your father and his friend. For some years now my visits to the island have been for interment services. On a sunny summer day, the Village can be a beautiful and peaceful setting for this.

I should visit for other reasons, but meanwhile I’ll enjoy the pics posted by others.

My dad grew up on Hecla.

When we drove from Winnipeg to visit his family still on the island, we had to use the ferry before they built the causeway. I think you can see some of the remains of the ferry dock.

I was told my Uncle Vilhelm helped build the stone base for the welcome sign.
