We all know them, but how often do we think about them? In The Worst Songs in the World, author David Pate looks at anthems around the world and finds them violent, racist, sexist tunes that do more to divide people than unite them.

This week's book review is a departure from my CNF fare: a YA novel by Richard Levangie. Richard was a member of the class of 2015, and like him many members of the program have gone on to successes we didn't dream of at the time. #booksky #YAfiction #Canadianwriters

This week's book review is about Helena Moncrieff's book The Fruitful City lnkd.in/dUhEBSpw which connects homeowners with underused fruit trees with fruit-picking volunteers with people who need food security, while decreasing food waste, improving sustainability, and reducing food illiteracy.

Another great Canadian creative nonfiction read, Chasing Smoke is a memoir of firefighting that tells what it's really like to be in a massive fire while sharing the humour that keeps people going in extreme situations. An excellent read!

Catherine Fogarty explores the deadly Kingston Penitentiary Riot and what we have or haven't learned about human rights and prison reform in Canada. A page-turning piece of historical crime nonfiction.
