That reflexive need for decorum is what kept Nixon out of prison, and subsequently set the precedent for our current miasma. Until we accept the idea of a bridge too far, they'll never stop trying to find one.

This is being pushed by the same folks restoring confederate statues and names. Pretty sure "dishonor" isn't in their vocabulary.

That would actually work. Too bad the odds of it happening are so low, only a billionaire narcissist can reach those depths.

Albanese? The UN Rapporteur we're trying to sanction into oblivion? Nothing says "international law" like targeting the international community for daring to actually follow the law. This is why brics needs to happen.

"god's plan"

You see this in hostage situations. No one fights back, because no one wants to believe things are as bad as they could be. Facing the loss of agency is a bitter pill, and a common response is to preserve decorum and just rearrange the deck chairs while hoping for the best.

I think being an outsider gives a different perspective on the value and utility of social conventions (including laws), and if anything, you'll find the opposite -- although there may be a distinction to be made about the exact "flavor" of neurodivergence at play.

When have peaceful protests worked?

I never listened to them, but I remember what MLK said on the subject.

You're confusing outcomes with opportunities.

You'll get no argument from me sir

That's the part that worries me.

I would argue that without democracy, you can't have socialism. Equality in all things is the whole point.

Feudalism is exactly what they want, and where we're headed. Oligarchy is already here, we've been there ever since corporate personhood.

I think we have a difference of opinion on the viability of getting the rich to cede power voluntarily.

My knowledge of Europe is extremely limited, but I know that China and Vietnam would never have gotten out from under the West without soviet assistance.

And again. Stalin should have never succeeded Lenin.

I never served in the European theater, but I spent some time in the US army, and I've seen what our quest for empire looks like firsthand.

The existence of NATO is proof enough for me.

The West gave up on military intervention after the Bolsheviks won, but they sure tried to prevent it. Afterwards, their tactics because much more subtle.

As for everyone else, it's worth noting that they're all former colonies. Many of those countries asked the US for help, and we refused. The USSR is responsible for delivering more nations from colonialism than anyone wants to admit.

For the record, I'm neither expert nor scholar. But from my limited experience, it looks like the West only allows socialistic policies when the socialists look like them. The USSR tried, but dealing with the West meant Lenin was replaced with a guy who could handle conflict, not an ideologue.
