John J. Mearsheimer, one of the giants of IR and a leading voice in realist theory, praised Bringing War Back In as "a truly impressive book (...) that shows in great deal how war helped make the state in Latin America." www.cambridge.org/core/books/b...

Sid Tarrow, a foundational scholar of contentious politics and Charles Tilly’s longtime collaborator, calls Bringing War Back In a valuable addition to the state formation canon, praising both the analysis and historical depth. Humbled and grateful! www.cambridge.org/core/books/b...

Zelensky vs Trump? The real clash today was Mazzuca vs Schenoni at @NorthwesternU An all-Argentine debate. Did war or trade made the Latin American state? That was the question.

When Kevin Middlebrook passed away during the pandemic, the leading seminar on Latin America in the UK, which he organized with Lawrence Whitehead, was canceled. This Thursday, it revives at Canning House, and I have the honor of being the first speaker. Long live the Latin American Academic Forum!
