DAILY DEMS DOING THE WORK, MAKING NOISE, AND FIGHTING BACK Day 289
Today was a mixed bag, for sure, but the good things were really good, and the ones that have actions going forward I have a really good feeling about. Sadly, you probably don’t know about most of these.

Young folks may think im crazy for putting this out there. But you may need to consider share house options. It's a concept that started in Japan. Where several working adults would put down and split the costs of a shared home. It gives added equity. And eases the burden of payments.

@eleanor.lockhart.contact Hey, Ellie! I’m a quiet observer this evening and am taking the ‘let a few news cycles pass and experts review and chime in’ approach to the news this evening on the Senate vote and what follows after.

Just wanted to thank you for your level-headedness and insight.

And maybe that's the whole point of my thread here. I hope the Senate exceeds my expectations tonight. But if they don't, don't blame a party. Blame the institution, and those members who have put the interests of Senators over the interests of the American people. And demand better.

@padilla.senate.gov @schiff.senate.gov

Hold the line. Do not cave. No deal. Fight. Hold the Republican party accountable; we do not cave to terrorists.

I’m calling upon both of my Senators to call for @schumer.senate.gov resignation and to hold him accountable. Thank you.

I told y'all they were gonna cave on a sketch floor vote before thousands of y'all called your Dem senators and we won the elections.

capacity and recruit pool both matter a lot
We are going to see a lot of ppl claiming, understandably, that the BBB has now provided Trump w a massive ICE army.

That is incorrect.

It has provided him with the funds to TRY.

A 2017 DHS-OIG report said ICE would need to interview 500,000 ppl to get 10,000 new hires.

Not easy!
The overarching point to this thread and the threads of mine nested in it (sorry abt that) is this:

This is a poorly-designed proposal made by ppl w no interest in even cosplaying as serious policy makers.

Fascism on the cheap by the indifferent.

That does NOT mean be complacent!

The point is:

This seems important:

At a time when even the Feds struggle to fill their slots, even w better terms than the local police (who can’t fill their slots), the OBBB plan offers … the same terms as before.

The terms that have resulted in on-going staffing challenges.

“Congress” didn’t pass this murder budget.

Republicans did it.

Republicans did it without a single Democratic vote in the House, without a single Democratic vote in the Senate.

Be precise and give, uh, credit where credit is due

Genuine thanks to Hakeem Jeffries for taking 9 hours to deprive these evil people of the chance to pass their wretched bill in the middle of the night. Instead they had to do it with the whole world watching. We will continue to watch, and make sure they lose all power as soon as humanly possible.

It can be difficult to not give in to despair, but revolutions aren't built on "we're fucked."
In general it’s fine to post “we’re fucked” on your own account because you might feel that way and it might be therapeutic to say how bad everything is, but it’s not fine to reply “we’re fucked” to everyone and everything because that might not be what other people need to hear all the time

Lots of Republicans are going to lose their seats over this budget - federal, state, and local.

It will not cost Trump anything, other than finally some House oversight his last 2 years maybe.

Which is how these things always go with Trump - others always pay for his sins.

Yesterday, Senate Republicans tried to add a provision to Trump's budget that would have removed federal judges’ authority to enforce rulings against the Trump administration.

Senate Democrats blocked them.

Get your shit together. The women's suffrage movement took 80 yrs. Decades longer for other rights. You're whining after 5 mo. Go regulate.

Trump has overplayed his hand and he's doubling down by escalating his vicious deportation and militarization agenda across the country.

Fight back, Dems! It works! Trump loses on this! (And it's also the right thing to do, you know, morally, if that happens to factor into your politics at all).

This is the slap back to Stephen Miller’s “arrest everyone” madness. And an admission that Trump is under pressure from multiple industries that rely on migrant workers.

This is huge and important. Keep amplifying the harm done by the Trump/Miller zealous, cruel overreach. Don’t bury this.
BREAKING: The decision suggested that the scale of President Trump’s mass deportation campaign — an issue that is at the heart of his presidency — is hurting industries and constituencies that he does not want to lose.
