Today was the funeral of my dad, Ian Gould. Strangest Christmas Eve ever. I’m ending the day grateful for how well it went and for the good times.

Lovely to see so many of his @thesnp.bsky.social pals there. If you cut my dad open he would be black and yellow at his core.

• Earlier tonight, with my aunt Janice and I beside him, my dad passed away. I’ll post something more befitting of the father of an obits writer a bit later. For now, to the first man to hold my hand, it was a privilege to be the last woman to hold yours.•

Facebook just reminded me that four years ago today I was just waking up from the first of two ops for thyroid cancer. My goodness I’ve come a long way since then. Literally, and figuratively. We moved from Newcastle to Aberdeen, we bought a reno & I returned to journalism. What a ride!

Outside of work I’m a wife, mum, crazy dog lady, a leader in our church, a binger of TV box sets and I’m still a wee bit traumatised from having cancer in the pandemic. (If you have cancer in a pandemic and went through it all alone, did it really happen???) Oh and I wrote a book. (Me and my dug).
