It helped her that we framed it as not being afraid of her getting hurt, but wanting to help her never hurt someone. Fortunately, she eventually gave up her license voluntarily. Mostly because my dad is still alive and can do the driving. When my dad’s turn comes, that will be hard.

With my mom, we started it as a hypothetical: ‘At some point not that far in the future it won’t be safe for you to drive any more. It will be hard for you to see it when it comes but you don’t want to realize it by killing someone. What are the the signs you think we should look out for?’
