What perfect album came out when you were 16?

Query update: I got a very kind rejection that despite being a rejection gave me some confirmation that the writing itself has enough charm to get agents' attention! I still have faith this book will find its home somewhere, and if not, my other WIP will be ready soon too 💪

Sometimes I make a playlist that's a mix of general project-specific vibes and songs that could go in the soundtrack if my book was a movie. Occasionally I sneak a line from one of those songs into the first draft. "Show me your teeth, girl. Show me what you're made of."

Tracking time spent writing has made a big difference. I'm at an average of just over an hour a day for the year so far, and have done at least a token 10 minutes every single day with the exception of while moving house in january. Let's see if I can bring the average up in the econd half!

July is one of my writing group's Challenge Months. In other words, I get to guilt-free work on a potential sequel to the book I'm query instead of one of the three higher priority projects.

Waking up to glowing feedback from a beta reader who liked my novel so much that she stayed up till 2:30am to finish it in one day was just the morale boost I needed in the current challenging slog through writing the sequel

I might get to play in a new D&D campaign in a few months, so naturally I accidentally already came up with a detailed character concept for a sad woman with a tragic past. (I swear I play other types of character too)

It's only a WIP, but I like to join in the fun of #BookQuoteWednesday anyway! Lavender has been offered her dream job at a university of witchcraft, ten years before she expected it to be possible

I still have hope that the current generative AI wave will die down as people realise it's just a bad solution to a problem that doesn't exist. But hoping doesn't achieve much, so #DoTheWriteThing and call for accountability for egregious copyright violations that are continuing to occur as we type.

#bookqw #BQW the word is 'game'
from my WIP about witch sisters

“What’s the endgame for all these dark lords who try stuff here anyway? If it's taking over the world, why pick a remote university? And if it's about taking over the university, why target first years and not faculty?”

My challenge to maintain a better writing schedule was to reach an average of 80 minutes work a day (including writing, editing, query prep, etc). My actual daily average for Jan through March was 65 minutes, so not on target, but a lot better than if I hadn't been tracking and setting a goal.

I have come to a worrying realisation that the most logical ending to my current work in progress is for the police/army/navy to show up and anticlimactically call off the final battle a la Monty Python and the Holy Grail

#BookQW 'fire', as always with no context:

“I’ve half a mind to march on down there and shoot him right between his wicked little eyes.”
Casper gave a grave look. “He’d damn well deserve it, too, but we’ve been one bullet away from all-out war for years. Don’t be the one to fire it.”
