13 has a really fun combat system (and ATB!!!) they just do a terrible job hiding the linearity for the first half.

15 has one of my favorite stories, but a bunch of lore is hidden behind releases outside the game, like the movie and comic.

Overall though, they’re still great in their own ways

I feel like real time combat was always the end game for FF, and they were more limited by hardware, game design, and the resistance of change for a long time.

ATB could be argued that it exists because of the desire to move the needle towards more real time/action combat within an RPG framework

No, #MTG #WotC should be creating good cards that are fun to play and dont overpower or overshadow the rest of the field.

I dont want one of my favorite characters to create this frustration that leads people away from sharing my love of FF & Vivi, and any other UB products that exist.

When #MTG #WotC takes on UB contracts, more care than normal should be taken to ensure that characters and themes are portrayed well. Which they generally do.

But they shouldn't just be powerful for power's sake. Because that gets us to where we are now.

The current card pool is what...3k or 4k cards at this point? I dont know what the answer is, but the bans we've seen this year are a direct result of the changes made to standard.

Something has to be fixed at a systemic level before these bans will slow down.

Designers need to find a way to design for not just the existing standard, but what is to come also. It's not like they dont know what cards are in development.

Like...when the card you say is fine becomes explosive with a print 6 months later (profs & the mono red card) it's an issue.

Expecting testers to look at what you printed 17 sets ago (3 years std + 6 sets a year!!!) to find interactions is obviously not going to happen.
